Nomination Papers for Charter Commissioners Available February 1

The City Clerk’s Office is alerting Portland residents that nomination papers will be available for the Charter Commissioner seats on February 1, 2021. The deadline to turn in the nomination papers is March 29, 2021.

The following seats are available:   

District 1 - one seat
District 2 - one seat
District 3 - one seat
District 4 -one seat
District 5 - one seat

At-Large - four seats. 

As a reminder, City of Portland voters approved creating a Charter Commission to open up review of the City Charter during the July 14, 2020 Election. 

On August 10, 2020, the City Council approved the appointment of three members to serve on the Charter Commission and established that nine additional members elected by Portland voters will serve on the Commission. 

Voters will elect the remaining nine members of the Commission on June 8, 2021, and then the Charter Commission will begin its work of reviewing the City Charter.

Papers can be taken out in the City Clerk's Office, which is located in Room 24, basement level of City Hall. The public must use the Myrtle Street Entrance to gain access. Masks are required to enter the building as well as health screening questions.
