Ad Hoc Rules Committee
The Council's Ad Hoc Rules Committee exists to review the Council's operational rules to ensure clarity and consistency.
Broadband Planning Committee
The City of Portland Broadband Planning Committee was formed in November 2020 to engage Casco Bay island residents in evaluating their collective interest in and needs related to broadband service. The Committee included representatives from Cushing, Little Diamond, Great Diamond, and Peaks islands. Its work formally concluded in November 2021 with the issuance of a final report.
Search Subcommittee
Mayor Snyder established a Search Subcommittee on October 18, 2021 to perform the search for a new city manager. The Committee also performs searches when the city needs a new City Clerk or Corporation Counsel.
Ethics Committee
The Council Rules of Procedure were amended on June 16, 2022 with Resolve 15-21/22, which adds the Ethics Committee to the Council's Standing Committees. Along with Resolve 12-21/22 that approved the City Council's new Code of Ethics, these changes create a system to address any ethics complaints received by the City Council in the future.
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee reviews the city manager’s recommended operating and capital budgets and the school superintendent’s operating budget and makes recommendations to the City Council regarding those budgets.
Health & Human Services & Public Safety Committee
This committee develops policy recommendations that will improve and enhance the quality of life, health, and safety of all Portland residents and visitors.
Housing & Economic Development Committee
This Committee develops and recommends to the City Council policies that will promote balanced development in the city including residential, commercial, and industrial uses.
Legislative / Nominating Committee
This committee is charged with advancing council policy initiatives before federal, state, and regional governments and oversee hiring of board appointments.
Sustainability & Transportation Committee
The committee will establish policies - with an emphasis on sustainability principles and energy conservation - regarding the design, construction, maintenance, and use (both by city agencies and noncity parties) of all public facilities and infrastructure owned and/or controlled by the city.
