How do I deal with crabgrass?

Crabgrass is an annual weed and grows in a variety of places such as lawns. Just like most other weeds, crabgrass is a nuisance to your lawn or garden, but it is not harmful towards any living being. If anything, it’s a sign that your soil is unhealthy.

Prevention practices

  • Use at least two native turf grasses for your lawn
  • Hand pull weed when the plant is still young and before they set seeds

Non-chemical and mechanical controls

  • Fertilize your turf grass when the turf is actively growing
  • Water deeply but infrequently
  • Mulch your garden or yard and replenish periodically because it will decompose or move (weather, foot traffic)
