Woodford Street Sewer Separation Update

paving alert

The Department of Public Works would like to update you on the status and activities regarding the above referenced project. The contractor, D&C Construction, will be returning to the street in the weeks after Memorial Day to complete their list of items to finalize the project and apply the final paving.

As a reminder, this project was done to help the City with their efforts to prevent combined sewer overflows into Back Cove. The sewage will be directed to the East End Treatment Plant while the storm water will be discharged into Back Cove. The project installed a combination of new sanitary sewer and sewer laterals, new storm drain, new catch basins, and new pavement.

The contractor will be returning to the site to complete a number of items including:

1. Raising sewer and storm drain manholes to finish grade.

2. Installing channels in the manholes.

3. A Closed Circuit Televising of all pipes (CCTV).

4. The application of surface pavement to the street and driveways impacted by the construction.

Paint indicating underground utilities will again be applied to the street. The contractor will be exposing the manholes so please be mindful driving down the street.

Portions of the road where the contractor is working will be posted as “No Parking” as necessary when construction activities warrant it. This is done to protect your vehicles and to make moving around the site safer for the contractor as there will be a lot of construction activity.

The contractor will begin work each morning at 7:00 AM and typically works until 5:00 PM. Extenuating circumstances or emergencies may require alterations to that schedule.

You will have access to driveways on a daily basis but may be asked to move your vehicle out of the driveway if the contractor will be working right in front of it for the day.

You will begin to see traffic control devices in the form of physical signs. We ask that you observe and respect the flaggers and any traffic directional changes as we progress.

It is intended that any school bus pickup and drop off remain at their current locations.

Trash and recycling pickup for all streets will remain the same on Mondays. Please make sure both trash and recycling are at your curb by 6:00 AM.

The engineer will be onsite periodically to check in on the progress. We apologize in advance for any inconveniences that this construction may cause and thank you for your patience during this period. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Brad Roland at 874-8840.
