City of Portland officials will celebrate the installation of the new Park Ave separated bike lane project with a ribbon cutting this Friday, September 14, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the corner of State Street and Park Avenue.

The streetscape project includes three consistent, narrower, vehicle lanes on Park Avenue between Valley Street and Forest Avenue with a reconfiguration of on-street parking and the addition of a separated bike lane in each direction. These changes were made with paint, flexible posts and new signage. The project will be monitored and evaluated by City transportation staff over the next year.

"This improvement to our bicycle infrastructure is a great first step in the right direction to making our city more mobile for Portland's residents,” said City Councilor Spencer Thibodeau, Chair of the Sustainability & Transportation Committee. “I am grateful for the support of my colleagues on the City Council for making this appropriation to construct Portland's first separated bike lane, and I look forward to working with the community to improve and expand this infrastructure in the near future."

The project connects to a variety of bike facilities on Portland Street, Deering Ave, St. John Street and the rest of Park Avenue. This effort is part of a larger plan by the City to increase transportation options for all, connecting and growing the city’s bicycle network, and improving safety for all road users living, working, and traveling in the Parkside neighborhood.

More information on the project, including graphics of how each lane works and safety tips for each mode of transportation, can be found at
